Speaking at a press conference following the NATO summit in Washington, President Duda highlighted that the allies agree on Ukraine's irreversible path to joining the Alliance.
"Today, it can be confidently said that the Alliance stands firmly behind Ukraine; Ukraine can count on significantly greater support than before," Duda stated.
He pointed to the decisions to establish a NATO command in Wiesbaden, Germany, to coordinate support for Ukraine, and a training center for Ukrainian soldiers in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
Duda emphasized that both he and the new Dutch Prime Minister, Dick Schoof, stressed the importance of formally inviting Ukraine to NATO at next year's summit.
He acknowledged that Ukraine's accession to NATO requires ratification by all member states, which will be a lengthy process. However, he asserted that this would clearly signal to Russia and other actors that "NATO does not back down and firmly believes that the decision to admit any country into the Alliance is solely NATO's and the candidate country's decision."
