The attack was carried out using Kalibr cruise missiles in the early hours of Thursday, the Ukrainska Pravda website reported.

The Operational Command of Ukraine’s army in the south said: "The enemy launched a missile attack on Odesa’s port infrastructure at night. A civilian employee was killed when one of the port’s administrative buildings was hit. The production equipment of one of the freight terminals was damaged."

Russia launched the cruise missiles from a submarine in the Black Sea, Ukrainska Pravda reported.

The attack killed a civilian security guard, destroyed a security office and two cars, and damaged the equipment of one of the freight terminals, according to news outlets.

Odesa's ports have been regular targets for Russian attacks since Moscow withdrew from the Black Sea Grain Initiative last week, the Reuters news agency reported.

On Wednesday, NATO announced it was stepping up “surveillance and reconnaissance in the Black Sea region, including with maritime patrol aircraft and drones” to counter Russia’s threats to civilian ships and its attacks on Ukraine’s ports.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.

Thursday is day 519 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
