Polish politicians trade jabs in televised debate as election nears

A group of politicians of different stripes have locked horns in a televised debate ahead of parliamentary elections in Poland later this month.

Politicians from across the spectrum—Andrzej Rozenek, Jacek Wilk, Borys Budka, Jacek Sasin, and Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz—take part in the debate moderated by TVP anchor Michał Adamczyk (front) on Tuesday evening.

During the debate, politicians from five different groups seeking parliamentary seats fielded a variety of questions from an anchor, while also trading jabs over topics such as social policy, healthcare, agriculture, foreign policy and gay rights.

The 45-minute debate was aired by state broadcaster TVP on Tuesday evening.

With election day less than two weeks away, the country’s ruling conservatives appear to be running ahead of an opposition divided into three separate blocs, according to the latest polls.

Poles will head to the ballot box to vote in parliamentary elections on October 13.

The governing conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party is seeking a second term in power after a landslide win in 2015.

Seventy-seven percent of respondents to a recent survey said they intended to vote in the upcoming ballot.
