A UN report on world hunger has stated that almost 690 million people suffered from hunger in 2019.
Two UN agencies, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) further concluded that 750 000 people are threatened with starvation.
The food crisis is exacerbated by a conjunction of factors: conflict, climate shocks, effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and public debt burdens and the war in Ukraine.
These factors have contributed to food and fuel inflation, according to the agencies.
