"On the night of March 6, 2024, the Russian occupation forces attacked with 5 S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles from the temporary occupied territory of the Donetsk region and 42 Shahed combat drones," the Ukrainian air force said on the Telegram messaging app, as cited by state news agency Ukrinform.

It added that "anti-aircraft missile units of the Air Force" and "mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces" were involved in repelling the air attack," according to Ukrinform.

Ukrainian units used electronic warfare equipment to intercept the drones, the Ukrainian air force said.

Meanwhile, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said on Wednesday that a total of "86 combat engagements took place at the front" over the past 24 hours, "and the aviation of the Defense Forces struck 11 areas where Russian invaders were concentrated," Ukrinform reported.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.

Wednesday is day 742 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
