The event showcases Ałaszewski’s humorous and insightful portrayals of Polish athletes, celebrating a century of Olympic history.
The exhibition is a collaborative effort between the Museum of Sport and Tourism in Warsaw, the Warsaw-Mazovian Olympic Council, the capital's Museum of Caricature, and the Gromada Hotel, which provided the venue.
Edward Ałaszewski, known for his work in the sports press, particularly with "Przegląd Sportowy," has long been celebrated for his caricatures of outstanding athletes. His works remain highly sought after by collectors of sports memorabilia.
The vernissage attracted many Polish Olympians, including Robert Korzeniowski, a four-time Olympic champion in race walking. Ałaszewski, born in 1908 in Łódź, was not only an accomplished artist but also a Polish champion in volleyball and basketball. He created numerous caricatures of sports figures throughout his career, earning multiple awards for his contributions to sports art. Ałaszewski passed away in 1983 in Warsaw.
